People of Faith Gather

The annual Greater Hartford Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast is for all persons who simply want to join together and pray for our city, our region and our world. In the past ten annual breakfasts, an average of 250 people from business, government, education, faith communities and civic organizations have gathered to pray together. The focus is on what brings us together, not on what separates.

Our city and our world are even more diverse than just a few years ago. The Prayer Breakfast strives to represent this diversity of people and their faith traditions. Each year a number of faith groups attend and participate by sharing their prayers, their music traditions and their personal experiences of faith working in their lives and in their communities.

Theme for 2008:  Re-envision Youth; Re-invigorate Communities

Our theme celebrates the young people of our shared community – their talents and their needs, their dreams and their disappointments – while we acknowledge the pivotal role they play in reshaping the community around them. Beyond the negative press and the endless stories of despair, the day-to-day triumphs of the youth of our city give us pause to reconsider our current perspectives and to see things in a new light.

Celebrate Our Young People – May they become all that they can be!

Keynote Speaker’s Biography

Thomas L. Hoyt is the 48th Bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, selected in 1994.  He is a respected preacher and distinguished scholar in theological education, and has served on the faculty of the Hartford Seminary.  He comes to us from offices in Hyattsville MD and Charlotte NC.  His message will acknowledge various faith communities’ work in the wholesome development of youth, and encourage and affirm individuals’ efforts in support of these programs.

Hon. Eddie Perez, Mayor of Hartford, will also offer remarks.

Music

Howard Sprout will be our soloist and Cheryl Wadsworth will be our pianist.  Both have years of experience in church and music leadership.  Mr. Sprout has sung in many venues including for the Hartford Symphony.

Donations and Charitable Contributions

The Prayer Breakfast is a not-for-profit organization with a 501 C3 status run by volunteers. We ask for a suggested donation of $10 or whatever amount an attendee feels reasonable.
